Why i entered university

  1. isn't that what everyone fron junior colleges and centralised institutes with half a brain do?
  2. because my results were good enough. overqualified for this shitty place, in fact.
  3. my father wanted a daughter with a degree.

one more semester- less, if i wish it be so- and i'm leaving this place which considers itself the pinnacle of academic achievement in this country. of course, in the words of a certain lecturer, the reason why most of the students are here is because 'you are good. but not the best'. quoted from the great man himself. which is true. i wonder, how much more superior to the singaporean education system is the korean one? one which forces its top students to survive on 4 hours of sleep a day, the rest spent studying? study while eating, study while shitting, studying studying studying studying. i'm so glad i'm not in korea; i'd be a mental case now, not that i'm the epitome of nomalcy either.

now. from the korean point of view, and to a lesser extent, the asian perspective, i, being a girl, supposedly do not have to strive too much in academia. all i need to do is get a token job after graduation, get engaged, married, then quit when i get pregnant, to take care of my child. when i was younger, no worse death sentence could have been imposed on me. but now that graduation is looming near, i actually find myself thinking about the possibilities. but any way i look at it, looks like i'm destined to work my ass off if i'm to buy that nice house, that nice car and afford all the little things in life the have-nots consider luxuries. well. eventually the choice will be mine to make. one more semester to think about it. all failing, at least 4 more years then.

but. i'm not addressing my own topic. why did i enter university? hmm. partly because since young, i've been brainwashed into thinking that there's nowhere else to go after finishing high school education. i never even gave myself the space to wonder what would happen if i weren't able to make it anywhere. was it complacency, or merely the lack of options that i was given? for one, NOT getting straight As was never an option. to hell with econs la. ha. anyway, if i did not make it, i'd probably be stuck at home, cooking everyday and be greeted by an overly sarcastic father. *shudder*

would i say that hall life screwed up my degree? no. it's always possible to balance the both; but then again, truth be told, i was never the chao mugger type anyway. how is it possible to study so many weeks, months ahead? and unlike some people who have misplaced confidence in themselves for having revised relatively earlier, i'm wise enough to know that it works for me. so. it may appear that i'm always so free. but let's just say that i've worked out my own system of getting things done; just because i don't mug- and yes, i definitely don't. i'm not those types who pretend not to study then mug like crazy behind closed doors- doesn't mean that i don't take my studies seriously. surprise! but i admit, chinese is a bitch! thankyu kailing for giving me ting xie; i KNOW all of you are giggling because it seems so primary school-ish. heh

staying in hall is definitely an experience; it has so much to offer! my heart truly goes out to those who find themselves having to study so hard even during term time. sure, you guys say that arts students are so slack because we've got no work to do blah blah, but chances are, if you all are faced with our load of readings and the way some of those bastard lecturers phrase their exam questions so that it is oh-so-easy to go out of point and waste precious time writing absolute irrelevant bullshit, you will be glad for the safety of your cheat sheets (oops, help sheets, they call it?) and the predictability of your formula. i'm just tired of people saying that arts will be so easy to do because we are all so slack. and so tired of people saying 'nevermind i'll be earning so much more than you next time hur hur hur'. slap your face. but. as a non-mugger, i take my hat off to your discipline.

so many fun things to do after the exams.. get singlets for the rugby girls. get the chalet and bbq in order- so fortunate that i had the sense to book the chalet on my own instead of waiting for unreliable sources. catch a movie with yiling and kailing- thank goodness they are actually aware of this; it's not some phantom plan haha. go shopping! and most importantly, RESUME TRAINING! can't wait. but i know that the rest of the girls can. haha
