my secondary school chemistry teacher just added me on f^acebook.
the one who ignited my interest (that sounds like how cheesy please) in the subject and pushed us, unmotivated arts kids, to study for something we thought we hated.
the one who used to read us chapters of pip^i lon*gstockings before every lesson as the big donut drew near, just because she thought it'll help us de-stress. and i think it worked, at least for me.
the one who believed so strongly in her alma mater that she felt the need to come back and shake us up, extolling the virtues of school spirit and pride to a class full of surly teens whom the school didn't care about.
the one who climed so high, so fast, in a few short years that she was there.
i'm not saying that she was THE one inspiration who influenced my career choice. that honour belongs to my j*c G#P tutor.
but even as i prepare myself for tomorrow, i sit down and wonder if i'll be able to have as much impact on my students' lives as some of my teachers did.
if, even after 10 years, they'll remember me even half as fondly.
so here's a toast to all the unsung heroes of our younger years, to the teachers who cared.
