Got my grubby paws on a copy of Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales. Although the stories aren't written by her - she compiled and edited them- it's nevertheless gorgeous. Just like her twisted stories. I dedicate the most humsup award i got for command to mr yeo and angela carter's stories we did for the A's.
On the bus just now when i was coming home, i realised that i'm pretty lucky to have been posted to the school i was for my contract teaching. I was not thrown into the deep end (shilin stop cursing haha), the girls are reasonably well-behaved - besides, they're just a much tamer version of what we were at crescent haha- and colleagues are nice. So nice, in fact, that my unofficial mentor even had the heart to reassure me that as an untrained teacher, people will not expect too much of me. and when she said that, i had to pause and wonder if that's a good or bad thing. and decided that no, it's not a good thing.
BUT. have started slowly but surely taking over lessons, especially for P.E. and no, contrary to popular belief, i do NOT torture the girls. just threaten them a little with a glare once in a while, and whistle-blowing galore. and i appreciate the girls who actually suffered through my trainings last time, without TOO much complaint- not to my face, anyway. because it's so darn unbelievable that there exists girls who cannot catch balls for nuts. no, not the single girls. girls who scream when the ball comes flying, girls who giggle when swinging their hockey sticks wildly repeatedly, failing to make contact with the ball.
As i take on more classes, of course it means more responsibilities and minor worries. but i like being in the sun, the wind that passes by hello. i love to see the girls having fun - giggling and screaming, of course- running around and not thinking of their C.A.s and quizzes for once. i like having the freedom to go for a run, grabbing any p.e. equipment and hitting the courts/field/whatever when i want. but one thing that makes me sad is the dozens, yes, DOZENS, of unused gilberts lying sadly in the cages, cuz rugby was discontinued as a cca in the school some time ago. oh well you can't have it all.
Oh dear i sound like some fucking John Keating.
