this more than makes up for all the disappointments, doubts and frustration i've felt in this hall for the past 4 years. this hall, which does not recognise rugby players. this hall, which chooses to turn a blind eye to the lower-profile sports. this hall, where people go down in throngs to watch handball finals which we rarely win, but totally forget that there exists other ihg sports like badminton, table tennis, softball, and rugby. this hall, which 'forgets' to recognise players like angeline (table tennis, rugby, hockey), small serene (badminton, soccer, rugby) just because they are in lower profile sports. or is it because they aren't in the holy trinity of handball-netball-basketball?
do you know why KR continues to face the situation where their better sportsmen/women go over to other halls? umm how about the fact that there's so little show of appreciation for those who want to excel but are smothered under so many excuses? "it's ok if we don't get first; hall spirit hall spirit". since when did hall spirit translate into mediocrity? in a hall which does not necessarily support its athletes in the best way, how realistic is it to blame and berate those who choose to move to a more suitable hall, and call them traitors, betrayers, judas?
i was honestly very surprised to hear such extravagant praises from yanming. but then again, i shouldn't have been. because yanming was the only senior in the team who ALWAYS made me feel more special than i am, a better player than i believed myself to be. and also because the super seniors just seem to have an innate belief in the hall, in themselves, in their fellow hallmates.
when i was in year one, i used to look at the seniors and go 'wah'. i seriously doubted that when i was a final year, i'd be as impressive as they, as dependable, as responsible, as strong. and now that i AM a final year, i know that i'm not half of what they were. or are.
but as long as there are super seniors who continue to believe and appreciate us, who are so super in more ways than one, it spurs me on to become like them, to return to the hall yearly, to leave a prt of me behind in this place i've called home for the past 4 years. even if it might not recognise my efforts.
dedicated to: all super seniors who made my first year in KR so memorable, and continue to remind me why i loved the hall so much.
